- Almac Sciences has launched cGMP-compliant flow high-pressure hydrogenation to expand its API and flow chemistry services.
- The capability supports clinical and commercial manufacturing, offering improved control, safety, and scalability.
Almac Sciences has introduced a new cGMP-compliant flow high-pressure hydrogenation capability to expand its API and contract manufacturing services. The technology is now available for both clinical and commercial manufacturing programs and is designed to improve precision, safety, and scalability in hydrogenation processes.
The new capability enables hydrogenation under continuous flow conditions, offering control over temperature, pressure, and mixing. According to the company, this approach can improve reaction performance, reduce impurity formation, and enhance reproducibility at scale. The system operates at pressures up to 100 Bar and temperatures up to 300°C while maintaining regulatory compliance.
The launch builds on more than eight years of investment in flow chemistry, during which Almac Sciences has developed expertise in packed-bed hydrogenation and demonstrated performance at scales exceeding 100 kilograms. The addition of cGMP capability is intended to extend these capabilities to regulated manufacturing environments.
“This investment marks a significant milestone for our team and our clients. By combining cGMP flow hydrogenation with our established expertise in cryogenic organometallic chemistry and large scale packed-bed hydrogenation, we are offering continuous processing capability today.”
Dr. Scott Wharry, Associate Director of Custom and Flow Chemistry at Almac Sciences
The company stated that the expanded offering supports demand for safer and more efficient manufacturing processes. By integrating flow hydrogenation into its services, Almac Sciences aims to provide clients with technologies that support development through to commercial production within a CDMO framework.
