Delpharm to Modernise Boucherville Facility with Canadian Government Support

  • Delpharm has partnered with the Government of Canada to modernise its injectable manufacturing facility in Boucherville, securing a $200M investment.
  • A 10-year agreement with Sandoz will ensure a stable supply of 20 critical medicines for Canadian healthcare.

Delpharm has announced a partnership with the Government of Canada to modernise its injectable drug manufacturing facility in Boucherville. The initiative, backed by a total investment of over CAD 200 million, will enhance production capacity, secure the supply of critical sterile injectables, and safeguard over 500 jobs in Quebec.

The Boucherville site plays a key role in Canadian healthcare, producing 20 of the 100 critical medicines essential for surgery and intensive care. Under a newly signed 10-year agreement, Delpharm and Sandoz will work together to ensure a stable and reliable supply of these vital treatments, bolstering Canada’s healthcare resilience amid global supply chain challenges.

The modernisation project, scheduled for completion by 2031, includes site expansion, installation of a state-of-the-art filling line, and comprehensive equipment upgrades to meet updated Health Canada standards. Ultimately, 95% of the existing equipment will be replaced.

“This significant investment is a key step in securing Canada’s industrial biomanufacturing footprint and strengthening our resilience against future health emergencies and supply chain disruptions,” said The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.

Delpharm’s Chief Commercial Officer, Stéphane Lepeu, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the company’s broader growth strategy, reinforcing its position among the top five global contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs).
