FUJIFILM Biotechnologies has opened a new 2,000-square-meter quality control laboratory at its commercial-scale manufacturing site in Hillerød, Denmark. The facility is designed to expand the company’s CDMO and contract manufacturing capabilities by supporting increased demand for bioassay and virology testing.
The laboratory will support approximately 100 quality team members and is equipped for viral safety testing, potency assays, and raw material analysis. It includes modern ventilation systems, airlocks for personnel and materials, and an open-plan layout designed for flexibility and future growth. The site also incorporates robotics and a laboratory information management system to support data integrity and digital harmonization across global operations.
The expansion follows the doubling of the Hillerød site’s production capacity in 2024, increasing from six to twelve 20,000-liter mammalian cell culture bioreactors. The increased production scale required additional quality control infrastructure to manage higher volumes and more complex testing requirements.
The new laboratory is housed within a 7,600-square-meter building that also includes office space, utilities, and backup systems to ensure uninterrupted operations. Construction was completed in March 2026, with regulatory approval granted by the Danish Medicines Agency. Laboratory operations are scheduled to begin in May 2026.
