Genetic Immunity Partners with VectorBuilder to Advance HIV Vaccine into Phase 3

  • Genetic Immunity and VectorBuilder announce a strategic partnership to advance a plasmid DNA-based HIV vaccine into a late-stage clinical trial.
  • VectorBuilder will provide Process Development, Process Characterization, and GMP Manufacturing services for the clinical trial and future commercial production.

Genetic Immunity, clinical-stage biotechnology company focusing on discovering and developing plasmid-based DNA (pDNA) therapeutic vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases, is taking its HIV vaccine into Phase 3 clinical trials following promising results from earlier studies. The company has partnered with VectorBuilder, a global expert in gene delivery solutions, for end-to-end production and GMP manufacturing of plasmid DNA required for the trial.

Under this collaboration, VectorBuilder will employ its Quality by Design (QbD) approach to ensure the vaccine’s development meets regulatory requirements and optimises success. The services offered will cover Process Development and Characterization, as well as GMP Manufacturing, for the pivotal Phase 3 trial and commercial manufacturing.

“We are thrilled to support Genetic Immunity’s innovative approach to HIV treatment,” said Dr. Bruce Lahn, Chief Scientist at VectorBuilder. He added that the partnership aims to meet stringent clinical and CMC development requirements, ensuring success in both the trial and subsequent commercial rollout.

Dr. Philip C. Onyebujoh, Chief Medical Director at Genetic Immunity, highlighted the synergy of the partnership, noting that it combines technological innovation with therapeutic advancements. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would significantly improve outcomes in treating infectious diseases, including HIV and other diseases of poverty.
