  • Hovione’s new campus in Seixal, Portugal, has entered its final construction phase, with operations set to begin in mid-2027.
  • The €200 million investment will expand industrial capacity, enhance spray drying capabilities, and create around 100 skilled jobs.

Hovione has announced that its new manufacturing campus, Hovione Tejo, in Seixal, Portugal, has entered its final construction phase. The facility is set to commence operations in mid-2027, reinforcing the company’s global leadership in advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Spanning 42 hectares, the site will house two production buildings: one dedicated to particle engineering technologies and another for final dosage forms. The facility will incorporate state-of-the-art automation and sustainability solutions, aligning with Hovione’s commitment to efficient and compliant pharmaceutical production. The project represents an initial investment of €200 million and is expected to create approximately 100 highly skilled jobs.

With the addition of Hovione Tejo, the company will operate five manufacturing sites across three continents, including locations in Portugal, Ireland, the United States, and Macau. The Seixal site will initially employ 40 team members in 2026 before ramping up to full production capacity.

“This new phase of Hovione Tejo’s construction is a major step in the company’s international expansion,” said Dr. Jean-Luc Herbeaux, CEO of Hovione. “By combining scientific and engineering expertise with cutting-edge technology, this greenfield expansion will enable compliant and efficient manufacturing of complex new medicines.”

Beyond production, the campus will include laboratories, offices, a cafeteria, and shared facilities to support operations. Sustainability measures will play a key role, with decarbonization initiatives and energy-efficient solutions integrated into the site’s design.
