Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), a global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), is strengthening its decarbonization efforts with a 4.3 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant at its integrated drug substance and drug product facility in Morpeth, UK. The project is being delivered under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Alight UK BTM1 Limited.
The solar installation will include approximately 6,200 panels across 16 acres. Once operational, it is expected to supply around 3,950 MWh of renewable electricity each year, meeting approximately 22% of the Morpeth site’s annual electricity demand. The company said the installation will produce enough clean energy to power approximately 1,460 UK homes annually.
The project is expected to help the Morpeth facility avoid an estimated 20,000 tCO₂e over 25 years. PPS said the onsite electricity generation will support its long-term decarbonization strategy while enhancing the resilience of its energy supply.
Project operations are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. The initiative forms part of Piramal Pharma Ltd.’s sustainability efforts and is being undertaken with Alight, a solar developer and independent power producer.
