ProBioGen Launches AGE1.CR.ReX Platform for Recombinant MVA Production

COMPANY PROFILE
  • ProBioGen has launched AGE1.CR.ReX, a new avian designer cell line designed for stable, high-titer poxvirus production and rapid generation of recombinant modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA).
  • The platform combines inducible gene expression with the proprietary TetherexX System to support vaccine and oncolytic virus development while improving manufacturing reliability and genetic stability.

ProBioGen has launched AGE1.CR.ReX, a new avian designer cell line developed for stable poxvirus production and rapid generation of recombinant modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA). The platform is designed to support the development and manufacturing of poxvirus-based vaccines and oncolytic viruses through improved genetic stability and manufacturing consistency.

The AGE1.CR.ReX platform is based on the company’s GMP AGE1.CR.pIX lineage and incorporates inducible control of transgene expression during virus production. According to ProBioGen, this approach is intended to reduce selection pressure against unstable transgenes, which can affect viral titers, batch consistency, and purification requirements during poxvirus vector development.

The platform also integrates ProBioGen’s proprietary TetherexX System, which uses tetherin as a selection marker to eliminate parental viruses during recombinant MVA generation. The company stated that the system can generate pure recombinant MVA in as few as three passages and is compatible with high-throughput screening, adherent cultures, and suspension cultures in chemically defined media.

ProBioGen said the technology supports applications including poxvirus-based vaccines, oncolytic viruses, personalized medicines, and pandemic preparedness programs. The company also stated that the platform is being used as part of a joint initiative with Minapharm focused on an African Bundibugyo Ebola virus vaccine.

“The combination of inducible transgene control and the TetherexX System enables faster development timelines and more robust industrial manufacturing workflows for vaccine and viral vector developers.”
