Vetter, a global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), has announced a significant expansion of its pharmaceutical materials warehouse in Ravensburg. With an investment exceeding €150 million, the expansion will increase the facility’s cool storage capacity by 16,000 pallet spaces, bringing the total to 68,000 across various temperature zones. This move supports the company’s organic growth and rising market demand for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical storage.
Construction began in late 2024, with a key milestone anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026 when the building shell will be completed. The full expansion, which includes a 22,500 sqm building, is set to be operational in 2028. In addition to increasing storage space, the facility will house sample storage for stability testing, additional visual inspection rooms, office areas, a data center, and a new staff canteen.
“Since the opening of our Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics in 2012, we have been on a continuous journey to enhance our storage capabilities for both room temperature and cold storage,” said Carsten Press, Managing Director at Vetter. “The latest phase of construction marks a strategic step in our warehouse development, driven by the increasing need for cool chain due to the many temperature-sensitive medications.”
The expansion will focus on cool storage, chest, and walk-in freezer capacity, catering to high-profile pharmaceutical products. Advanced monitoring systems and fully automated pallet storage and retrieval will enhance operational efficiency and security. “The growing need for cool storage for innovative drug products increases the demand for additional storage space,” said Timo Usinger, Senior Vice President Supply Chain Management at Vetter.
With this investment, Vetter aims to strengthen its role in pharmaceutical storage innovation, ensuring a robust supply chain for its global customers and their patients.
