- The $35 million investment will create an integrated pathway from spray-dried amorphous solid dispersion manufacturing to commercial tablet production.
Hovione will commission the world’s first ConsiGma CDC Flex, a next-generation continuous tableting line, at its East Windsor, New Jersey campus in late 2027. The project represents a $35 million investment and will connect amorphous solid dispersion manufacturing through spray drying with commercial tablet production.
The line will operate in both continuous and batch modes across a throughput range of 1 to 200 kg/h. Customers will be able to develop formulations using quantities as small as 1.5 kg and use the same equipment for clinical and commercial batches. The system will also include containment to 1 µg/m³ to support highly potent compounds.
The investment is intended to expand Hovione’s integrated U.S. development and manufacturing capabilities for complex oral medicines. The company said the line will allow customers to move from formulation and particle engineering to commercial tablet production through one Hovione team and quality system.
“Hovione will be the first company in the world to offer the ConsiGma CDC Flex, bringing this next-generation technology with unprecedented flexibility, simplicity and cost-efficiency in continuous tableting,” said Marco Gil and António Almeida, co-CEOs of Hovione.
Developed jointly with GEA, the ConsiGma CDC Flex platform incorporates SimpleCT automation and control tools designed to support a single process from development through commercial supply. Hovione said the technology is designed to simplify operation, improve efficiency and containment, and enhance operator safety.
