Just – Evotec Biologics, the biologics segment of Evotec SE, has officially opened its J.POD® biologics development and manufacturing facility in Toulouse, France. This marks the company’s first J.POD® site in Europe, which is located on Campus Curie. The new facility, spanning approximately 15,000 square meters, aims to enhance biologics manufacturing capacity across the continent.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several regional and local officials, including Pierre-André Durand, Prefect of Haute-Garonne, and Jean-Luc Moudenc, Mayor of Toulouse. Dr. Christian Wojczewski, CEO of Evotec, expressed gratitude to the French government and the Occitanie Region for their support. “The opening of J.POD® Toulouse represents a significant milestone for our company,” he said.
The J.POD® technology enables continuous and flexible cGMP production of biologics, offering an efficient solution to the challenges of scaling from clinical to commercial manufacturing. The facility is designed with sustainability in mind, reducing water, energy, and chemical consumption compared to traditional fed-batch methods.
In addition to production, the Toulouse facility houses process development and quality control laboratories, making it a comprehensive site for both clinical and commercial biologics. The construction was completed in just 18 months and benefitted from French government funding as part of the Investments for the Future Programme.
Dr. Linda Zuckerman, EVP and Global Head of Biotherapeutics at Just–Evotec Biologics highlighted the facility’s importance: “With this second facility, we extend our capacity to develop and deliver biologics to patients in need.”
