SK pharmteco Launches SKyvec™ Viral Vector Platform for Gene Therapy Development

COMPANY PROFILE
  • SK pharmteco has launched SKyvec™, a proprietary viral vector platform designed to support gene therapy programs from research through commercial manufacturing.
  • The platform includes AAV, lentiviral, and adenoviral manufacturing capabilities and incorporates process enhancements that the company says can deliver 5x to 6x productivity gains in AAV manufacturing.

SK pharmteco has launched SKyvec™, a proprietary multimodal viral vector platform designed to support gene therapy programs from early research through clinical supply and commercial manufacturing. The company said the platform combines development and manufacturing capabilities across its facilities in North America and Europe to support the advancement of viral vector-based therapies.

The SKyvec™ platform provides a framework covering cell line and plasmid inputs, process development, and drug substance manufacturing. According to the company, the platform can be adapted to support either drug substance or drug product requirements depending on the therapeutic application and program stage.

The platform includes three manufacturing offerings: SKyvec™ AAV for adeno-associated virus production, SKyvec™ Lenti for lentiviral vector manufacturing, and SKyvec™ Adeno for adenoviral vector manufacturing. SK pharmteco said the integrated approach is intended to provide developers with regulatory-ready solutions tailored to different program requirements and production scales.

The company stated that the platform incorporates new AAV processing enhancements that deliver productivity gains of five to six times while improving full-capsid ratios. Upstream process development is conducted at scales of up to 200 liters, with established scale-up to 500-liter and 1,000-liter bioreactors. The platform is supported by integrated analytical testing, cell and viral banking services, and regulatory infrastructure.

“Gene therapy developers are under enormous pressure to move promising science into the clinic quickly, but speed cannot come at the expense of quality. With SKyvec™, we are giving customers a flexible, high-yield viral vector platform designed to simplify development, support robust product quality, and improve manufacturing efficiency so more programs can advance toward patients with confidence.”
