The partnership directly advances ICON’s digital innovation and AI strategy, building on Orbis — ICON’s secure, governed, agentic AI platform — and gives ICON direct access to Anthropic’s Life Sciences research team to explore and apply cutting-edge AI technologies across clinical development.

Through the collaboration, ICON and Anthropic will develop four production capabilities within the Orbis platform. The first, site intelligence and study planning, will power ICON’s OneSearch and OnePlan tools with frontier model reasoning to sharpen site selection and study feasibility analysis. The second, Orbis predictive intelligence, will enable real-time detection of enrollment risks, trends, and operational signals across active studies — addressing one of the most persistent sources of delay in clinical development, with enrollment bottlenecks affecting up to 80% of trials. The third capability, protocol optimization, will apply AI to protocol design and scenario modelling to reduce amendments and accelerate study startup. The fourth, ecosystem integration, will embed ICON’s clinical expertise directly into client systems, enabling sponsors to securely access ICON’s insights within Claude’s interface.

The enterprise-wide deployment of Claude will follow a targeted, role-based rollout across ICON’s approximately 40,200-person global organization. Claude Code will be deployed for developers, Claude for knowledge teams, and Claude Science for scientific and clinical teams — a structured approach designed to maximize value creation by aligning AI capability to the specific needs of each professional group.
