Lonza Expands Bioconjugation Manufacturing Capacity in Visp with Three New Suites

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Lonza is expanding its integrated bioconjugation manufacturing offering in Visp, Switzerland, combining upgraded 500-liter mid-scale capacity with a new large-scale facility featuring three multiproduct suites.
  • The mid-scale upgrade is scheduled for completion in 2027, while the new large-scale manufacturing capacity is expected to become operational in 2028.

Lonza is expanding its bioconjugation manufacturing capabilities at its manufacturing complex in Visp, Switzerland, through investments in mid- and large-scale production capacity. The expansion will provide customers with a manufacturing pathway for antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and other bioconjugates, from clinical development through commercial supply.

The expansion includes converting existing mid-scale bioconjugation manufacturing suites into a standardized single-use platform, with completion scheduled for 2027. The suites will provide 500-liter single-use capacity and will be upgraded with single-use equipment, chromatography capabilities and parallel manufacturing capacity. The changes are intended to support multiple products and programs, faster campaign changeovers and more flexible manufacturing planning.

Alongside the mid-scale upgrade, Lonza is constructing a new large-scale bioconjugation facility at its Visp manufacturing complex. The facility will include three multiproduct suites for cytotoxic and non-cytotoxic products, using stainless-steel and single-use manufacturing technologies at scales of up to 1,200 liters. The additional capacity is expected to become operational in 2028.

The investments respond to increasing demand for bioconjugates as more ADCs and other products progress through clinical development toward commercialization. By combining the two manufacturing capabilities, Lonza aims to provide customers with greater flexibility, faster onboarding of new ADC programs and a scalable route to commercial production.

“As more ADCs and other bioconjugates advance towards commercialization, customers need confidence that manufacturing capacity can grow with their programs. Lonza’s investments in Visp reinforce our ambition to be the leading CDMO partner for integrated bioconjugation development and manufacturing solutions.”
