Lonza has expanded its strategic collaboration with a U.S.-based biopharmaceutical company, adding two biologics programs for commercial manufacturing with an option to include two additional programs. The agreement builds on an existing multi-year relationship and extends long-term commitments across a portfolio of biologics development and manufacturing programs.
According to the company, the expanded collaboration supports an evolving portfolio of biologics programs with the flexibility to scale manufacturing over time and transition products into commercial production. Lonza said the partnership has grown through a series of agreements in recent years with the potential for a cumulative multi-billion Swiss franc value.
Development and manufacturing activities under the collaboration will be carried out across Lonza’s commercial-scale biologics manufacturing sites in the United States, supported by its drug substance and drug product development and manufacturing capabilities in Europe. The multi-site model is intended to provide geographic flexibility, supply security, and access to specialized manufacturing capabilities.
Lonza said it will apply its mammalian antibody manufacturing technologies, including N-1 perfusion process intensification, while also providing manufacturing process optimization to reduce production cycle times. The company will deliver end-to-end CDMO and contract manufacturing services, including drug product manufacturing, to support the transition from drug substance production to final dosage forms.
“This strategic collaboration demonstrates Lonza’s role as a trusted manufacturing partner for large biopharmaceutical companies.”
Gordon Bates, Head of Integrated Biologics at Lonza
