- Upperton, a UK-based CDMO, has installed the Fill2Weight gravimetric powder filling machine from 3P Innovation at its 60,000-square-foot GMP facility in Nottingham.
- The system enables precise capsule and device filling for low-dose and high-potency APIs, supporting faster development timelines and reduced clinical trial risks.

Upperton, a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) based in Nottingham, UK, has upgraded its GMP capabilities with the installation of the Fill2Weight gravimetric powder filling system from 3P Innovation. The technology is now operational at Upperton’s 60,000-square-foot facility, which supports formulation development and clinical manufacturing across oral solids, nasal, pulmonary, and parenteral dosage forms.
The Fill2Weight system provides high precision and efficiency through gravimetric dosing, ensuring consistent weight verification for each capsule. It is particularly suited for low-dose and high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) as well as challenging powder formulations. The system also supports limited-quantity APIs and can handle diverse powder types and fill weights, including dry-powder inhalers.
“This addition marks a significant advancement in our GMP manufacturing capabilities, increasing our capacity to manufacture small-molecule and high potency medicines for clinical trials.”
Ian Lafferty, Chief Technical Officer at Upperton
The technology aims to accelerate development timelines and reduce risks for small to medium pharmaceutical companies and innovators.
Tom French, Head of Process Technologies at 3P Innovation, added that Fill2Weight enables precise dosing into diverse delivery devices, meeting industry needs for small dose weights and tight tolerances.
