Alpha Genesis Adds African Green Monkeys to NHP CRO Portfolio for Infectious Disease and Vaccine Research

COMPANY PROFILE
  • Alpha Genesis, Inc., a Yemassee, South Carolina-based contract research organization and America’s leading provider of nonhuman primate research services, has announced the addition of African green monkeys to its NHP research portfolio, expanding the species options available to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, and government sponsors for preclinical programs.
  • The expanded offering supports research programs in virology, immunology, vaccine development, infectious disease, metabolic studies, aging, and translational biology, with available biological matrices including whole blood, serum, plasma, PBMCs, and tissues — delivered under GLP and non-GLP conditions with full veterinary and animal care oversight.

Alpha Genesis, Inc., America’s leading provider of nonhuman primate research services, announced on June 2, 2026, from Yemassee, South Carolina, that it now offers African green monkeys as part of its expanding NHP CRO research portfolio. The addition gives qualified pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, and government sponsors access to an established and scientifically credible nonhuman primate model supported by Alpha Genesis’ existing infrastructure for colony management, sample collection, veterinary oversight, and contract research services.

African green monkeys are a well-characterized NHP model with applications across virology, immunology, vaccine development, infectious disease research, metabolic studies, aging research, and translational biology. For preclinical CRO sponsors navigating ongoing constraints in rhesus and cynomolgus macaque availability — a persistent challenge that has affected study timelines across the industry — the species represents a scientifically grounded alternative or complement, particularly where immune biology, infectious disease susceptibility, metabolic phenotype, or study design considerations make them a compelling option. Available biological matrices include whole blood, serum, plasma, PBMCs, tissues, and other study-specific sample types, collected under appropriate veterinary and animal care oversight.

Alpha Genesis operates under both GLP and non-GLP conditions and provides sponsors with a single-organization model combining animal access, procedural support, biological sample collection, and study execution. The company’s CRO service infrastructure supports colony management as well as preclinical study design and execution, enabling sponsors to progress from model selection to study completion without engaging multiple vendors for NHP-dependent programs. The African green monkey addition is designed to integrate directly into this existing service model without requiring sponsors to navigate separate sourcing and contract research relationships.

The announcement follows Alpha Genesis’ broader program of domestic NHP capacity expansion, including a 40% increase in U.S. primate breeding operations and successful completion of a USDA triennial re-licensing inspection. Collectively, these initiatives reflect the company’s strategic positioning as a domestic NHP research provider at a time when U.S. scientific self-reliance in primate research supply chains has become a priority for both government and industry sponsors.

“Biomedical research depends on choosing the right model for the right scientific question. The availability of African green monkeys at Alpha Genesis expands the options available to sponsors designing efficient, rigorous, and responsible preclinical programs.”
